 ... and more: When is electrical current dangerous?

In constructing and experimenting with the handcrank power station you work voltages of about 3 volts. This low voltage is not dangerous, and is similar to that of conventional AA and AAA batteries. Note: Electric current from a wall outlet is very dangerous. Likewise, the voltage in overhead railway cables is dangerous. What can you safely do with electricity and what you should definitely avoid?

On August 14, 2003, the northeast USA and parts of the Canadian province of Ontario experienced a serious power outage. In total, 55 million people were left without electricity. It took 2 days until all the residents of New York City were reconnected with electrical power.
